arapaimaKmno4 and H202 to improve water quality
Im planning to use Kmno4 (Potassium permanganate ) and H202 (hydrogen peroxide ) to oxidize my tanks dissolved organic matter .Planning to occasionally use them, maybe once every 2 months?
i trie3d a few days ago in my arowana tanks.
I dropped some PP, enough to turn my water pink for only a few minutes, after wards, i added some H202 to neutralize the PP, before that i disconnected my filters and removed some dirt from my tank and also all decorations, So far my arowanas seem to be quite happy?
while using PP i increased the aeration in the tank
anybody tried this?
btw for H2o2, Can i use it alone to oxidize dissolved organic matter?
I have a tank with clown loaches, will clown loaches be ok with a little H2o2?
planning to use only a small amount. not sure how much yet though, any tips and advise?
thanks.

i dont think it can work that way , wont the organic matter still be in the tank after getting oxidize??
Also, pp and h202 are strong OA, which may harm your fish and the beneficial bacteria in your tank.
I wouldnt recommend you to do it unless it is extremely necessary, water change would be safer and beneficial.
Just my opinion, hope more pro can contribute if it is a good idea to add pp
>I use to that when my arowana was with my kois in the FGT... But I add KMnO4 till the water was pink(take note dont overdose it will wipe out the tank)Afterwards I added H2O2 only after the water had turn brownish or in some cases i notice brown precipitates. The H2O2 will clear the water till its crystal clear(really clear).
Like you I disconnected my filters as the brown precipitate may clog out the filters...(even though the H2O2 should neutralise it not sure about it)...
This is recommended by the previous koi dealer saying that doing this occasionally is good for the kois due to the potassium that gets into the water and it oxidising a lot of stuffs... At least that was what I was told. The recommendation was to do it if the kois looks kinda of lethargic or not well..
For arowana I am not sure whether it does any harm or good but my arowana seems happy after the pp treatment with my kois in the FGT...Swimming around in crystal clear water... But like what w47 said its strong OA a little too much will wipe out your tank!!( I have kena before in a matter of 10 mins) Also I am not sure what the loaches threshold for the KMnO4..
>Hehe, PP bombing is not a routine procedure, there are risks involved.
Wldnt advice as it kills off bb which is needed to rid the tank of ammonia. It is used if there is bacterial infection that is recurring in the tank. A sterilisation process. Betong Aquarium,
